Ascorbyl palmitate is a fat-soluble derivative of L-ascorbic acid, it has high bioavailability as it can penetrate, due to its amphiphilic (lipophilic and hydrophilic) form, the also amphiphilic cell membranes and especially those of nerve tissue cells, thus accumulating vitamin C in cells and tissues for immediate use when required, unlike the water-soluble form of L-ascorbic acid which is unable to penetrate the lipophilic cell membrane.

L-magnesium ascorbate and calcium L-ascorbate, i.e. salts of ascorbic acid with magnesium and calcium, respectively, have also been chosen as a source of vitamin C for this product. These compounds show buffering properties and are therefore less acidic than L-ascorbic acid, thus helping to avoid gastrointestinal discomfort, stomach upset or diarrhea that sometimes occurs in people who are sensitive to L-ascorbic acid consumption.
